The required content
Identification of the product covered; each consumer product safety rule the product is certified to; the certifying importer or domestic manufacturer with name, address, and phone; the records-maintenance contact; date and place of manufacture; date and place of testing; and for children's products, the CPSC-accepted third-party laboratory relied upon.
Where certificates fail in practice
Three fields dominate real-world gaps: citations (the certificate says 'complies with all applicable rules' instead of naming each rule), place of manufacture recorded as a country when a city-level answer is expected, and the records contact pointing at a person who left the company. None of these are testing failures — they're data hygiene failures, which is why they're fixable in days once identified.
Certificates are data now
